Dental Clinic, Riyadh Region

As available, remaining clinic time is utilized to provide primary dental care for Hospital employees and their dependents. The mission is accomplished by engaging in clinical practice, teaching, research, continuing education, medical outreach, and by providing consultative service to other hospital departments and outside institutions. The list of hospitals, centers, and clinics that provide dental services in Riyadh city was obtained from the Ministry of Health.
However, these efforts were not followed up by studies to determine the effects. The longer the treatment of a TDI is delayed the greater is the risk of de-vitalization of the tooth or bone resorption, especially given that tooth survival depends directly on the time of treatment . TDI also impact the best dentist in saudi arabia the oral health related quality of life of families and data shows that sociodemographic factors such as gender of the parent and income of the family directly influence parental perception of OHRQoL . There is however little data about the impact of the above mentioned factors in Saudi Arabia.

All 1500 dentists, of both genders with different specialties and years of experience, registered in SCFHS and members of SDS in Riyadh with an active dental license were recruited and invited to participate in the study. Dental students, non-Saudi dentists, and dentists without experience were excluded. The additional certification in OFP obtained by the specialists varied, as it included the American Board of Orofacial Pain (35.3%), advanced training or certification in OFP (35.3%), fellowship (11.8%), and Swedish Board (5.9%) certification. All specialists obtained their OFP certification from either the United States or Europe. The OFP specialists practicing in Saudi Arabia showed consensus for 74% of statements. The consensus among specialists was highest for the “treatment and prognosis” domain (77.8%), followed by the “etiology” domain (75%) and the “diagnosis and classification” domain (71.4%).
Another explanation could be that some dental schools provide minimal theory on OFP or TMD and/or little clinical experience to such patients . In Saudi Arabia, as in many dental schools, most dental colleges only teach TMD topics within courses such as prosthodontics, oral surgery, oral pathology, oral medicine, and oral diagnosis . Furthermore, there is little or no clinical practice on actual TMD patients .
The sample of dentists was obtained from the list of hospitals and clinics practicing dentistry in Riyadh city. Most areas were approached, and the available dentists were asked to participate in the present study. However, three was no other better information about the specific real distribution of dentists in Riyadh city. Additionally, about 23% of the approached dentists did not sign the consent forms or did not fill the distributed questionnaires. Therefore, the generalization of the results of the present study to all dental practitioners in Riyadh city should be considered with caution due to the reasons mentioned above. According to the current study, 40% of dentists working in private dental clinics were Syrians.

The study included Saudi dental practitioners working in Riyadh public hospitals. Whereas non-Saudi dental practitioners, dental students, and Saudi dental practitioners who work only in the private sector, or other cities in Saudi Arabia were excluded. Therefore, this study aimed to assess knowledge on and attitude toward silver diamine fluoride among Saudi dental practitioners in Riyadh public hospitals. Our results can help dental practitioners to understand their responsibility of using social media within their dental practice, which will be reflected in patients’ expectations and knowledge. The findings of this study might help Saudi Commission for Health Specialties to organize workshops to harmonize the use of social media within the dental practice to avoid any ethical violations of their use among dental practitioners in Saudi Arabia.
The second section was designed to estimate the general thoughts on SDF among dental practitioners. The third section was about the potential and actual use of SDF in the dental practitioner’s own professional life. In this study, the evaluation of educational outcome confirms the results of other studies conducted in various parts of the world.

General dentists who were prepared by hands-on experience in treating SHCNs did not consider their patients’ disability as an obstacle to providing treatment . In fact, they were more likely to treat more of these patients and use behavior management techniques, compared to other general practitioners who were not well prepared by their dental education . Despite this potential clinical risk, few published studies have assessed dentists’ knowledge of TMD . A recent study reported that general dentists’ knowledge of chronic OFP was low compared to dental specialists . Another study showed that knowledge of TMD in children and adolescents is low in general dentists in Saudi Arabia compared to Swedish orofacial pain specialists .
Prior to the survey, only 76 dentists (46.9%) reported that they were aware that PTs can treat patients with TMD while 59.9% were not aware that the evidence suggests that PT can improve TMD symptoms with oral exercises, manual therapy, and postural reeducation. Furthermore, only 35.8% of dentists were aware that TMJ pain may also involve cervical spine pain (Fig. 4). On the other hand, after the participation in this study, 97.5% of dentists was willing to refer patients with TMD to PT when needed. Only one dentist believed that oral maxilofacial specialists can treat the TMD patient instead of PTs. In addition, almost 90.7% of the participants reported that they were interested to learn about the benefits of collaboration with PTs for treatment of patients with TMD . The awareness about multidisciplinary approach may help health practitioners to refer TMD patients to other specialists for better management of the condition , and much better prognosis can be achieved by dentist and PTs collaboration .
